If you are expecting and you have a gut feeling that your little one is going to have an adventurous spirit, there are plenty of baby name ideas for your future explorer. Whether your partner lives for thrills or you have a wanderlust nature, the new addition to your family is likely to have a streak of adventure in his or her spirit if you or your partner loves to explore and experience new things.

All of the following names directly mean “explorer” or are related to exploration in some way. Although many of them are suited for boys best, some of them may work for girls as well.

Cabot: An Italian-born English explorer, John Cabot was both an explorer and a navigator back in the 15th century.

Columbus: We’ll always remember this one in the history books! Columbus was the name of the famous explorer who discovered America.

Cortez: If you’re looking for a strong Spanish name, this name was the surname of Hernando Cortez, a 16th century Spanish explorer and adventurer. He is credited for his part in conquering the Aztec civilization of Mexico.

Mark or Marco: A great name for boys and a choice that is fashioned after the Italian explorer, Marco Polo.

Raleigh: A name that works equally well for boys and girls, Raleigh was an explorer that Queen Elizabeth I favored.

Thor: With a resurgence in popularity thanks to the latest Thor movie, this strong, adventurous name is a new favorite for first and middle names for boys. Thor Heyerdahl was a Norwegian explorer who sailed over 4,000 miles by raft from South America to the Tuamotu Islands.

Adelie: A name given to Adelie Land, a portion of Antarctica, in 1840 by the famous French explorer, Jules Dumont. This name is German in origin and is a beautiful baby name idea for any little girl who is destined to be an explorer at heart!
